Hello Everyone,Welcome to all our members, guests and Rotarians around the world. For my last message as President for the 2017 – 2018 Rotary year, I wanted to say thank you to each and every one of you in our club for allowing me the privilege to serve as your President! It has been an awesome year and I absolutely want to thank our leadership team for all their hard work and dedication to improving our club. It wouldn’t have been possible without them! As for this week’s program, we have Andrew Taw, our new President for the 2018 – 2019 rotary year, speak to us about his goals for his presidency term. I am happy to say that everyone will be in good hands and I am definitely excited for what he has in store for us!

Sincerely,

Stephen Zhou,

PresidentRotary eClub of Silicon Valley

Weekly Inspiration

Every week we start our meetings with a short video highlighting innovation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, or social change.

The world is poorly designed. But copying nature helps.

World of Rotary

For families of children with special needs, finding fun, low-cost activities isn’t exactly a walk in the park.“We have therapeutic horseback riding in the area, which has a long waiting list,” says Stephen Parlett, whose 15-year-old son, Adam, is nonverbal and uses a wheelchair. “And we have adaptive baseball within Little League. But it’s nice to have something unscheduled to do, so you can just go out on a nice sunny Sunday and play.”Learn more at https://www.rotary.org/en/our-world-place-where-everyone-can-play.

Coffee With a Rotarian

A natural part of Rotary is the networking and the fellowship you get out of meeting other Rotarians. Coffee With a Rotarian is a monthly program of our club where we match participating club members for one-on-one virtual (or in some cases in person) coffee meetings, so they can learn more about each other. This program is organized by member Tzviatko Chiderov.

This week we have Celine from Belize reporting on his chat with Andrew from Oakland, CA, USA.

Andrew works for Richmond Area Multi-Services, an organization that provides mental health and job training for low income San Francisco residents. He is the person that brings in the money and make things happen!Andrew will be getting married soon and plans to travel to Mexico next year with his soon to be wife.During our meeting we shared things we would normally take when visiting a family member. Andrew shared that he takes chocolates from the US to his family in Taiwan. He will be attending the Rotary International Convention in Toronto and we will be able to meet in person. And who knows, maybe I get chocolates too. Haha

We encourage all club members to participate in Coffee With a Rotarian. You can sign up here!

Happy Dollars: Do Good by Sharing Something Good

Each week we ask our members to share stories with the club and toss in a few dollars to support our efforts. The primary goal of this section is to provide a fun way of getting to know each fellow members and guests, while giving back to a good cause.

Happy dollars is an opportunity to share something positive that has happened in your life whether it is personal or business. Think of it as your opportunity to brag a little, but also put a little bit into a karma jar. The money donated through happy dollars is put to charitable use, and the message that you leave for happy dollars will be posted in our online meeting the following week for the entire week for folks to see! (Pending that it’s appropriate!)Here are the happy dollars contributions from last week!

Member Rory Olsen made a $20 donation. Here is what he had to say:Did CWR last night with Yvonne Kwan. I think we both had a good time. My fur baby, Jazzmine, video bombed us several times. We should be able to move our new furniture into our renovated house in several weeks. Please apply my gift to Polio Plus!

Member Brian Liddicoat made a $15 donation. Here is what he had to say:Super-excited to be heading back to Seattle next week with my son to bike the famous "Iron Horse Trail" in the beautiful Snoqualmie Valley.

Share your happy dollars thoughts with us and help with doing good around the world.

Selected Comments

Every week at the bottom of our meetings, there is a comments section for members and guests to tell us what they enjoyed about the meeting or to ask questions to the speaker. We select a few comments every week from last week’s meeting to be featured during this week’s meeting.

Here are the comments selected from last week’s meeting.

Tzviatko Chiderov said:Jahir, this was awesome. I love what you said in your closing remarks: "there's art work everywhere" and that we should just pay attention to it more. I really like that you have found a way to make this into a project that supports this form creative expression that all of us can enjoy in public places around our cities. Thanks for the virtual tour of the graffiti art in Bogota! I can't wait to visit one day! Also, I appreciate you connecting this to the history of graffiti art around the world and how it has evolved. Thank you!

Monique le Conge Ziesenhenne said:Really enjoyable meeting this week! I loved the Tiny Blades piece, as I often struggle to start something until everything is "ready." Whatever that means! Seeing how long the project has gone on is inspirational. Likewise, I love the Tour story. Really interesting to watch. Fascinating!

Rushton Hurley said:Jahir, it's amazing how much you packed into that presentation - thank you again for sharing it with our club! The paper cut art video was great, and Rory, I love the picture of your cat. We have a cat, and we also have furniture that looks like that. Stephen, thanks for the good work you've done this year! You'll soon enjoy the magic of the title, "past president".

Be sure to leave a comment at the end of this week’s meeting after you watch the program below, and perhaps you’ll see your comment featured next week!

You’re Almost Done! One last thing: The Attendance Survey…

Thanks for reading and watching this week’s meeting. You have two last things to do before you’re done. First, we have a very short attendance survey below for you to fill out to record your attendance.

Visiting Rotarians, this is how you can get an email receipt to pass along to your club’s secretary as proof that you’ve attended our meeting if you need it for makeups.

Non-Rotarian Guests, we would love to see who is dropping by our meetings! This part is optional for you. If you think you may want to join our eClub at some point in the future, we would strongly recommend you fill out the attendance form as it will improve your chances of success for your membership application.

More importantly, for all members and guests — we strongly recommend and ask that you leave a comment below in our comments area below. Tell us how you enjoyed the program. Ask this week’s speaker any questions you might have. Or just stop by and say hello and tell us where you’re from!
